THE MAJOR POWERS:
%
UNITED STATES - The Arsenal of Liberty - playable
Overview:
The sleeping giant.
The USA is isolationist and inward-looking, but for how long?
If the US joins the war, it may well doom the Axis cause.
The effects of US war production are already being felt.
Army:
While brave and patriotic, US infantrymen are not the best
soldiers. And the army consists of mostly volunteers,
conscripts and green officers. However, they are superbly
equipped, and experience may improve performance.
Airforce:
Not powerful, but it will become so if the USA joins the war in earnest.
Strategy:
Potential is the word here. America's war production can tip the
balance against the Axis if they put factories in full gear.
%
THIRD REICH - The Teutonic Powerhouse - playable
Overview:
The most deadly army to march across Europe.
Truly a nation geared for one purpose...War.
No other power can match the tactical expertise
or vehicle quality of Germany.
Army:
German infantry are well-equipped and
brave, and are known to be very formidable.
They start off with some good tanks,
but these may soon be matched by Allied types.
Airforce:
The Luftwaffe is seasoned and numerous,
but the current RAF battles may prove tough.
Strategy:
Researching the secret weapons and
armour gives the Germans a technical edge,
but building enough will be a problem
unless new facilities are captured.
%
SOVIET RUSSIA - The Russian Steamroller - playable
Overview:
Russia is known for surviving many invasions and repelling invaders.
By the 1930's, the Red Army was one of the largest armies in the world.
It has fatal flaws, however. Stalin has made cruel purges of the army.
Much of the officer corps is either dead or exiled to Siberia.
Army:
The Soviet trooper is courageous, but has a lack of modern equipment.
The Red Army is now controlled by weak and sycophantic officers,
who have loyalty to Stalin, but little initiative or tactical skill.
Airforce:
The Red Airforce is skilled and dedicated,
but lacks modern fighter designs.
Strategy:
The secret of Russian victory seems
to lie with a upheaval of Soviet military mentality.
New weapons and a new attitude are needed, fast.
%
BRITISH ALLIES - The Embattled Empire - playable
Overview:
Commanding a powerful, but wide-spread empire,
Britain is hard-pressed. Not in 900 years has an
invader succeeded in taking the British Isles,
But Germany is coming close. The Luftwaffe must be stopped before
a Nazi invasion of the UK is launched...Which will mean disaster.
Army:
The British army is stubborn,
brave and known for it's efficiency.
The Dunkirk fiasco has hurt the UK's pride,
but the cohesion of the Army is still strong.
As it must be to hold off Germany.
Airforce:
The RAF is the best in the world, only the Luftwaffe comes close.
They are few in number however, and can't hold out forever...
Strategy:
Survival till winter 1940 is a main priority.
Germany may not attempt invasion over the cold months,
and may abandon the invasion in favour of more tempting targets.
Then the UK can develop new offensive unit types, and hit back.
%
JAPANESE EMPIRE - The Pacific Conquerors - playable
Overview:
At the following Paris Peace Conference of 1919, Japan's
proposal of amending a "racial equality clause" to the covenant
of the League of Nations was rejected by the United States,
Britain and Australia. Racist arrogance and discrimination
towards the Japanese had plagued Japanese-Western relations
since the forced opening of the country in the 1800s,
and were again a major factor for the deterioration of
relations in the decades preceding World War II.
Army:
The Japanese soldier has an incredible devotion to duty,
high morale, and absolute refusal to surrender against any enemy.
The Japanese Army is for the most part an infantry-based army.
In the mid-1930's the Japanese began to expand their tank program.
Airforce:
The IJN and IJA forces are separate,
but share the same resolute courage.
In the Pacific, Japan has the best fighter currently, the Zero.
Strategy:
Strike hard and quickly.
The Japanese industry needs to expand
to fuel the new Asian Empire they are building.
This means China must be crushed soon,
and America may have to be crippled too.
